We couldn’t be more pleased with the overall performance of our students reflected in these early results. This is the final product of a great deal of hard work and commitment from our entire staff and student body. We anticipate that the final results are announced later this summer, CCISD students’ performance will compare favorably to the best in the state. These scores appear to be the strongest we have seen in some time. This is due directly to highly qualified teachers, and hard work from them and our entire learning community.
In addition to a 100% of our 2010 seniors’ class passing the exit-level TAKS, as well as strong TAKS scores across the board, we continue to see growth and success in our dual-credit partnership with Angelina College. The High School Allotment Program provides students, grades 9-12, the opportunity of accruing college credit hours while attending high school. Approximately one-third of this year’s senior class attended Angelina College. A number of this year’s senior class accumulated credit for 20 college hours or more with two seniors, Kyeisha Forman and Natalie Johnson, completing 30 college hours, the equivalent of an entire freshmen year of college.
CCISD promotes the concept of easing our high school students out of their ‘comfort zone’ here in Corrigan by gradually exposing them to the college environment. The importance of making that social transition is critical to a student’s first college experience. We like to do this while the students continue to receive adequate support from the high school most importantly through our counselor, Sandy Burris, and Staff.
